What kind of fibre is in oat bran/wheat bran?
Oat bran is predominantly soluble fibre, and wheat bran is mostly insoluble fibre.
What is the difference between soluble/insoluble fibre?
Soluble fibre absorbs water and forms a gel. Its health benefits include lowering blood cholesterol and managing blood glucose.
Insoluble fibre speeds the movement of food through the body, making you more regular.
Both types make you feel fuller longer, thereby reducing appetite.
What is the difference between quick oats, Rogers Old-Fashioned Oats, and steel cut oats?
Quick oats have been pre-cooked and dried, allowing them to cook in 60 seconds in the microwave.
Rogers Old-Fashioned oats are less processed, and have a lower glycemic index than quick oats. They cook in 2-3 minutes in the microwave.
Steel cut oats are cut with a steel blade into coarse pieces. They take significantly longer to cook. Rogers will soon be introducing Steel Cut Porridge Oats – a blend of steel-cut and old-fashioned oats, with oat bran, wheat bran and flax. It has the goodness of steel cut oats, in half the cooking time!
What is the best way to maintain the freshness of cereals and flour once opened?
Store cereals and flour in air-tight sealed containers in the fridge or freezer to maximize shelf-life.
Why is the flax left whole in Rogers Porridge Oats?
The oils in flax seeds go rancid very quickly once ground. Ground flax seeds must be kept in a sealed, opaque container under refrigeration in order to remain fresh. Using ground flax in our Porridge Oats would significantly reduce its shelf life.
