Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).

Cream butter, add sugars; cream together until light and fluffy. Add egg, molasses and vanilla. Beat well.
In a separate bowl mix all the dry ingredients together.

Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and combine well. Form dough into 1" (2.5 cm) balls and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Flatten with a floured fork to 1/4" (5 mm) thickness.

Bake 15 minutes. Remove from oven, allow to sit on sheet 1 - 2 minutes and then transfer to cooling rack.
