Jane Dummer, RD suggests thinking outside the conventional side dishes this season, “I recommend a few autumn-inspired dishes filled with fall flavours, crunchy pumpkin seeds, plus seasonal fruits and vegetables. Healthy, colourful sides can offset the beige monochromatic and richness of the other traditional holiday dishes. It is a wonderful time of year to celebrate and give thanks from the farm to the table, while keeping seasonal ingredients and nutrition in mind.”

Ancient Grains Maple Butternut Squash & Apple Stuffing

It’s a savoury sweet twist on a traditional favourite. This delicious stovetop stuffing is made with local ingredients like maple syrup, butternut squash and apples, plus the Porridge Oats & Ancient Grains. And don’t forget the pumpkin seeds. It’s easy to make and is high in fibre, vitamin A and C. Perfect to enjoy with the turkey.

This make-ahead, colourful curry mango salad is a refreshing blend of sweet and mild heat in the citrus dressing. We love the deliciousness of quinoa, Porridge Oats & Ancient Grains and cashews. It’s served cold and is rich in antioxidants and fiber from all the ingredients including the mango. Plus it has 7 grams of plant-based protein per serving, ideal for your vegan and vegetarian guests.

We added dried cranberries for Thanksgiving; however, we encourage you to customize the dried fruit ingredients depending on the season.  It’s high in fibre and is a good source of plant protein. This pilaf freezes well, so don’t worry if you have leftovers.
